Softball Canada Batter's Box Change 2022

  1. The removal of the batters box is to simplify the hitting process.
  2. The front of the batters box is 3 feet in front of home plate so the distance to the pitcher has not changed.
  3. It will be marked each day instead of a batters box so as a result it should be visible through the evening.
  4. If the batter touches the ball with his bat while any part of his foot is over the line, it is an automatic out..
  5. The batter is out if he touches the ball with his bat while in contact with the plate, the strike mat, or his foot is in front of home plate.
  6. If there is any attempt to obscure the line, that player or coach is ejected.  This is a safety issue.
  7. When setting up for the pitch the batters front foot should not be any further back then the end of the strike Mat if they are setting up at the back, and if they are setting up at the front for the start of the pitch the batters back foot should not be any further forward than the front of the plate.

"Rule Exception - Use of Helmets

Use of helmets for 2023 will not be mandatory however, SAMSPA very strongly recommends that all players wear an approved (Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE)) batting helmet with two ear flaps while batting, base running and in the on-deck circle."
